Standout Performances: Week Five
The midway point of the season provided MLQ fans with a thriller. In a split series, the Charlotte Aviators beat the Washington Admirals. While there might have been only one matchup, we got one of the most exciting weeks of the year. All three games were nail-biters, as the league was taken on a rollercoaster of a series. In case you missed it, here were a couple of standout performances.
Nathan Jun (#77)
In his first MLQ series, Nathan Jun was electric for the Washington Admirals. Jun adds his name to fellow University of Virginia players making their MLQ debuts this season. He put up 120 points, three assists, and one stop in one of the closest series of the summer. Since 2023, when the league started keeping track of series-specific stats, no chaser has gotten close to scoring 120 points in this matchup. League-wide he is tied for third among chasers in points per game this summer. While the team might have dropped the series to the Charlotte Aviators, Admiral fans should be thrilled to know that this young Washington core has players like Jun who are already making a major impact.
Tony Bonadio (#7)
In what was a major win for the Charlotte Aviators, Tony Bonadio provided the fuel for the plane to take off. He led the series with an average dodgeballs of 1.76. He coupled that performance with four stops and an even plus/minus. His biggest contributions happened after twenty minutes in the yellow headband. Game one seemed over at intermission when the team was down 60 points. That is until the Aviators quickly scored three goals and Bonadio caught, flipping the momentum and winning an in-range game. In game two, Bonadio caught again, this time giving the Aviators a comfortable lead to finish the match.
