The New Orleans Curse to Go on Hiatus for 2025 Season
Major League Quadball has made the difficult decision to place the New Orleans Curse on hiatus for the 2025 season. While this outcome is not what any of us hoped for, it reflects broader challenges currently facing the sport across the United States.
In recent years, quadball has seen declining participation and retention, with many longtime players stepping away from competition. These trends have made it increasingly difficult to maintain rosters that meet league requirements, especially for smaller markets like New Orleans. Despite efforts to recruit and rebuild, the Curse were ultimately unable to field a full, policy-compliant roster for the upcoming season.
We’re incredibly grateful to all the athletes who expressed interest in competing this summer and to the local leadership that worked hard to keep the Curse alive.
In the upcoming offseason, MLQ will evaluate the structure of the South Division to better support team sustainability and competitive equity. For 2025, the league will move forward with a four-team South Division, and all four remaining teams—the Austin Outlaws, the San Antonio Soldados, the Houston Legends, and the Kansas City Stampede—will automatically qualify for the 2025 MLQ Championship.
We understand this news is disappointing, but it reflects the evolving landscape of the sport. As always, MLQ remains committed to building a stronger, more inclusive, and more sustainable future for quadball.
We look forward to seeing you at an MLQ series this season.
