MLQ Rules To Be Playtested at Winter Fantasy Tournament

DISCLAIMER: Rules listed below for the playtest are under consideration for implementation for the 2024 MLQ season. They are in no way guaranteed to be added to the 2024 ruleset. MLQ is also discussing internally and reviewing feedback related to gender and gameplay to determine MLQ’s 2024 gender rule and/or policy.

As we gear up for another MLQ season, our rules team is reviewing the current MLQ ruleset in order to determine what changes should be made to improve the health of the game. Currently, the MLQ rules team still feels that the game as played in MLQ is overall in a very healthy state. Teams have continued to show a variety of offense and defensive schemas, with presses becoming more prevalent than ever with the addition of stricter resets last year. MLQ wants to continue to give teams time to adapt offensively and defensively to these changes. However, the rules team still feels that hoop zones are too effective given how easy they are to implement. They hope that the following change will still allow well-coached teams to implement hoop zones, while making them slightly more difficult to accomplish.

Below are the rules we will be playtesting at the Slamta Fantasy Tournament on Jan. 13. Following the playtest, we will issue a survey to participants so they may provide MLQ with feedback. There is no guarantee MLQ will act accordingly to the results of the survey.

6.III.1.b The Knockout Procedure

  • Touch their center small hoop

As mentioned, MLQ will use the coming months to playtest and gather feedback on the proposed rules. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, or are running an event in the next few months that would like to playtest these rules for us, email gameplay@mlquadball.com.

MLQ would like to thank Emma Vasquez, Joshua Mansield, Mario Nasta, Melanie Rolfe, Mohamed “MY” Monawar, Rachel Heald, and Steven Belitzky for their contributions to the MLQ rules team. We would also like to thank Ashton Butler, Brandon Kubena, Caleigh Duvall, and Gabi Lopez for allowing us to use the Slamta Fantasy Tournament as a testing ground for these potential changes.
