2024 MLQ Ruleset

Major League Quadball is excited to announce that all official games, beginning with the 2024 season, will require a maximum of three players of a single gender on pitch during the seeker floor and a maximum of four players of a single gender on pitch during seeker on pitch.

MLQ has been gathering player demographic data since 2019 to better understand if teams could support a switch to three max.

“Our league is teeming with talented women and gender-expansive athletes, as we’ve seen on display both in the MLQ season and at Take Back the Pitch,” Co-Commissioner Amanda Dallas said. “While the shift in gender requirement on the field is not a complete fix for historical struggles women and gender-expansive athletes have faced within our sport, it is a step forward. Ultimately, we need those on the ground to continue to shift sports culture and demand more for their teammates that fall into our sport’s gender minority.”

MLQ is working to develop materials to assist teams in the recruitment of women and gender non-conforming athletes and will send targeted emails to past registrants and participants and potential future participants that fall into these identities. Our marketing team will also conduct outreach to various organizations catering to women and gender non-expansive athletes outside of the community in the hopes of creating lasting partnerships and generating more support for marginalized genders in our sport.

Alongside the addition of three max to the MLQ Rulebook, we will also be removing the restriction around one kick for players. In December, MLQ tested another possible change to the 2024 MLQ ruleset: tagging in on the short hoop. After reviewing the gameplay footage and feedback from participants, we have opted to forgo this rule change at this time. We appreciate those who participated in the testing and Sam Houston State University quadball for hosting the test.

Registration is now live for the 2024 MLQ tryout season and Take Back the Pitch. MLQ Championship tickets are also on sale.
